About Gloria’s groups

All activities are open and free of charge and do not require registration unless otherwise stated. You can join the groups at any time. Most groups are led by volunteers. Children can be brought along, but childcare is not available.

Some of the groups have their own Whatsapp group. Contact the group contact person if you want to receive information about the group’s activities via Whatsapp. If a contact person is not specifically mentioned, contact Gloria’s employees.

Changes to the program are possible. Follow the website and social media!

Finnish language groups

Let’s read together (Luetaan yhdessä)
Learn and speak Finnish in small groups. Suitable for Finnish learners of all levels, including those who cannot read or write.

Repeat and learn (Toisto)
The group is especially suitable for beginner Finnish learners who want to learn to speak everyday Finnish. No reading or writing skills are required.

Finnish discussion group
The group is suitable for anyone who can already speak a little Finnish and wants to practice conversation.

Finnish courses of the Adult Education Center (Spring 2026)

Finnish courses of the Adult Education Center are paid and must be registered on their website or at the office. More information: marja.juhola@jyvaskyla.fi.

  • Wednesday 16-17:30 (beginners/slow group)
  • Wednesday 17.45-19.15 (advanced group/normal pace)

Women’s Path Group (MAP TO WORKING LIFE PROJECT / International House Jyväskylä)

The group studies Finnish and childcare is arranged in the space during the studies. Only for those who have registered. Note! The group is full in spring 2026.

Other language groups

French conversation group
The group is suitable for those who already know some French and want to practice conversation in French.

Persian language teaching
Persian language teaching from the very beginning. Children can be brought along, the group meets in a space where toys are available for children. However, there is no babysitter.

English for beginners
You can come to the group to practice the basics of English or to practice conversation in English if you already know some English.

Grupo de Espanol = Spanish language group
The group is an open-level group, meaning you can join whether you don’t know any Spanish or you already know more. Within the group people can be divided into smaller groups according to level.

Language Café
In the language café you can speak different languages ​​in small groups. At the same time you can meet new friends, be together and drink coffee. The languages ​​change depending on which volunteers are involved in running the language tables. You can go around different tables or stay at one table to speak one language. In the language café you will encounter different languages, cultures and people. Sometimes the language café also has games and performances.

Family groups

Monimessi family café
Come and meet other families with children in a relaxed and comfortable family café. Support, activities and information about services for families with children are available. Breakfast is available from 10-11 am, 4€/family. Let’s spend time together, do crafts and sing multilingual songs! Family service workers and experts from different fields often visit the Monimessi. The Monimessi is led by Gloria employee Saara Jäntti.

Other family groups

Other family groups are guided by volunteers and meet independently, usually on weekends. Contact the family group volunteer (contact details in the weekly schedule) for more information about the group.

Guidance and councelling

Multilingual guidance and advice (International House Jyväskylä)
Service languages: Finnish and Russian
The service offers guidance and advice on, for example, questions related to residence permits, housing, hobbies and leisure activities, healthcare appointments and filling out forms.

Peer groups

Mondo: Cooking together group for 12-29 year-old immigrant and native Finnish girls and women
Enjoy spending time together and cooking in a relaxed atmosphere.

Game and discussion evening for the young and adults
Youth and adult evenings discuss different themes, play board and digital games, make visits and participate in workshops. Activities are planned together. Snacks are provided.

Women’s group
A group for all women. We hope that you will commit to the group’s activities for the season. The group discusses themes important to women, goes on trips and does all kinds of fun activities such as baking. The instructors are Saara Jäntti, who is responsible for Gloria’s volunteer activities, and Arja Miettinen, the leader of Gloria, as well as Kaisa Nissi, a psychiatric nurse, and Laura Pönkänen, a psychologist, from Social Services Supporting Integration.

Activity groups

Hatha yoga
A calm, relaxing yoga class. You do not need previous experience with yoga. Instruction in Finnish. You can bring your own yoga mat. Registration for the next week’s class by the previous Friday: arja.miettinen@gloriajkl.fi

Handicraft group
Come and make your own craft projects or learn craft techniques from other group members. Gloria has a sewing machine, threads, needles and craft supplies, which you can use free of charge in the group. Ask more from Gloria!

Open music group
Come and jam and sing together! Gloria has instruments that you can borrow (piano, guitars, ukulele, rhythm instruments) or you can bring your own instrument. All group members can suggest songs to play. The group occasionally performs at various events, but you can also participate in the group without performing. The group does not provide actual music lessons.

Language guide meetings (for volunteers of Finnish language groups)
In these meetings, we plan the activities of Finnish groups together, discuss current themes and support each other together.
